Introducing Balance Budget. The best budgeting app for beginners. Balance is my pride and joy. I released it in January of 2024 and I'm already serving a handful of customers.

I'm incredibly proud of the technology aspects and the learnings I've had on the product side.

1. I am the only person working on Balance. I've been able to release it to the Apple and Google Play stores for all sizes of mobile devices and a desktop app for Mac. It's also fully available on web and as a PWA.
2. I've used a serverless architecture that allows for automated scaling and has handled influxes of users flawlessly
3. I've maintained great best practices to build on top of as it scales
4. I've wrestled many product questions, feedback from users and different policies with partners
5. I've built relationships with some prominant companies in the Fintech space

ArtStory is a great project I got to partner with Roz Dimon on. ArtStory has stories dating back to the 80s, hundreds of pieces of artwork, and a custom CMS + Editor built from scratch. We were able to build this entire platform in just under 12 months working 5 hours a week. We kept to a strict timeline and budget which allowed for great productivity and efficient use of time.

I used strapi to quickly stand up a backend with relational data, and Vue.js for the frontend and CMS.

I was honored to have the opportunity to give a presentation on security best practices to a class of college students at the University of Luzon. We touched on everything from common attack techniques to writing policies and coaching executives on the importance of following procedures.

Syncbak is a privately held media company. I primarily worked on their AppleTV platform. I also worked as a lead for FireTV and Roku (supporting developers, doing code reviews + testing, and setting up + managing CI/CD) for a few years. I spent the majority of my time adding features to their AppleTV app as well as their iPhone and iPad apps. Some key features I helped them with:

• a complete redesign and rebrand
• new media and thumbnail content types
• trickplay
• pre and midroll ads
• new video overlays and menu options
• some new analytics and tracking
• CCPA

I believe that cross-generational relationships are an important part of personal growth. I have worked to address this passion of mine in a few different ways. I started on a project called MentorNetwork. As I gained some traffic with that project, my local church was interested in partnering to address that gap on their 10,000+ congregation. I took what I had learned from MentorNetwork and created the GuidanceNetwork that Eastview has been able to use internally to help facilitate many conversations between guides and young adults.

I had the great opportunity to join an Open Source software development panel during a hackathon at the University of Illinois. We were able to speak on topics around open source including how to make money with open source, how businesses use open source software, and how to license your own projects. We fielded many questions and helped a number of students get plugged in to open source projects we actively maintain and contribute to.

WDS is a health platform built from scratch in Node and Vue.js. Since 2016 I have helped build and support their product. I've built new features and helped onboard multiple clients. With a unique focus on the health and wellness space, I've had the opportunity to learn a lot about HIIPA access patterns and hosting requirements.

DIMONscapes are an innovative concept created by artist Roz Dimon. I worked with her to create MVPs of how she could take her digital art, and provide an experience that allows you to dive deeper into a painting.

After a successful MVP, we created a custom CMS that allows Roz to create new DIMONscapes on the fly. You can see a number of the pieces below.

Lexington Fire Department was a fun project I did with our local fire department. I worked with two of their leaders to design and develop a new site that would be easier for users to learn more about volunteering and the history of our department.

Hi and welcome to my blog. I want to tell you a little about myself.

I started in computers at a young age and quickly got a job spec'ing out and building gaming PCs for a local company. I got the opportunity to tag along and work on computer security for a global organization. It's here that I first got that passion for security. For the following six years I got to travel and help create security policies for staff.

I started to pursue a degree in Information Security. While in school I worked multiple network administration jobs and learned that a lot of the other technicians I worked with lacked the ability to code, and it seemed to hold them back from completing niche tasks. This realization pushed me to pursue an associate's in Mobile Application Development.

I completed my Mobile Application Development degree while at the same time pursuing Cisco certification. I ended up not being able to afford to finish my degree. I dropped out and started writing code for money.

Fast forward a couple of years and I started a development agency with two partners and about fifteen team members. After three years it came time to part ways with my partners. I sold my portion of the business and went back to the enterprise world where I could focus on innovative apps for Fortune 50 clients.

I still find myself needing to build apps in a startup environment from time to time. This blog is how I document what I am working on. I hope you enjoy, and take the time to leave me some feedback.
