Balance Budget

I created Balance Budget to give couples a shared view of their money. I launched it in January 2024. The product brings the monthly plan, transactions and connected accounts into one place, so both people can see what is planned, what has happened and what needs attention.

My work spans product direction and engineering. The DrawChicken team also contributes to ongoing design, development and refinement. A few parts of that work:

1. Shared planning. Income and expense categories can be adjusted to fit the household, with a clear view of planned amounts, actual activity and what is left to allocate.
2. Practical transaction review. Search, filters and bulk categorization help people review their spending. Manual entry keeps cash and other activity in the same plan.
3. Connected accounts. Plaid supports bank linking, while account status and reconnection flows help explain when a connection needs attention.
4. One product across web and mobile. Vue and Ionic provide a shared frontend, with Capacitor handling the native iOS and Android experience.
5. A serverless foundation. TypeScript, AWS Lambda, Cognito and DynamoDB support the backend, with infrastructure defined through AWS CDK.
